RACHEL CLARK CINEMATOGRAPHER

Rachel is a London based Cinematographer from the North East of England.

With a career spanning almost 20 years in the film industry, commencing in the camera department. Rachel has worked alongside an expansive list of Directors, Cinematographers and filmmakers whilst honing her own craft. She continues to be inspired by, and sometimes mentored by many of the people she worked alongside in her 10+ years as an assistant. Most notably Andrea Arnold & Robbie Ryan BSC, Bill Pope ASC, Erik Wilson BSC, Hélène Louvart AFC, Chayse Irvin ACS CSC and Greig Frasier ASC ACS.

Rachel has contributed to a diverse range of projects, spanning British independent feature films, Hollywood Blockbusters, as well as short form, documentaries and commercial work. Her credit list as an a crew member include, British independent feature films; ‘A Cock & Bull Story’ (2006), This Is England (2006) Control (2007), Bronson (2007), Paddington Bear (2014) Fish Tank (2009), Wuthering Heights (2011) American Honey (2009). As well as Multi Million dollar studio pictures; World War Z (2013), Captain America: Civil War (2016) Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them (2016), Fast & the Furious 8 (2017), Justice League (2017), Black Panther (2018) & Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)

Alongside shooting her own work Rachel has operated Cameras on a number of Major Studio pictures including; The Batman (D.P. Greig Fraser ASC ACS), The Kings Man (D.P. Ben Davis BSC) Dune (D.P. Greig Fraser ASC ACS) Eurovision (DP. Danny Cohen BSC), and most recently Apex (D.P. Claudio Miranda ASC)

Rachel has undertaken 2nd Unit Duties on multiple occasions, relishing the opportunity to collaborate and learn from respected colleagues. She was the 2nd Unit DP on ‘Rocks’ (Dir. Sarah Gavron) as well as shooting all Additional Photography for the film. ‘Rocks’ was nominated for 15 BIFAS and won 5 (2020). Cinematographer Hélène Louvart AFC acted as a mentor to Rachel throughout the project from pre to post Production. Rachel did B Camera Operating and 2nd Unit work on the 4-part drama Landscapers, for DP. Erik Wilson BSC, for which he won many Cinematography accolades including a BAFA, RTS and BSC award, as well as on the Feature Film ‘Men’ for Director Alex Garland and DP Rob Hardy BSC ASC. 2nd Unit duties were also performed by Rachel on A24 film ‘Tuesday’ directed by Daina Pusić and lensed by DP Alexis Zabé (Florida Project), soon to be released, as well as the recent Amy Winehouse biopic 'Back2Black' for D.P. Polly Morgan.

As a Cinematographer in her own Rachel shot ‘Pirates’ (Hillbilly Films/BBC Films/BFI) for Director Reggie Yates which received 5 BIFA Long List Nominations (2021) and debuted at SXSW Festival.

Rachel collaborated with director Dominic Savage on two I AM....... films for Channel 4. The most recent one, I AM RUTH, starring Kate Winslet gained her a BAFTA Nomination for her work as a Cinematographer. The project went on to win Best Single Drama and Best Actor at the BAFTAS.

Rachel’s Television Credits include the 4-part original drama ’Without Sin’ (Left Bank Pictures, ITVX) directed by Al McKay & starring Vicky McClure & Johnny Harris and most recently Block One of “Queenie’, a new flagship show for Channel 4/Lionsgate/Disney, based on the bestselling book by Candice Carte Williams (Book of the Year 2020, British Book Awards).

Rachel’s most recent independent feature film ‘Edge of Summer’ (Dir. Lucy Cohen, Prod. Dorothy Street Pictures) is due for release next year (2024) with an exciting festival run soon to be announced.

In 2023 Rachel was nominated for a BAFTA at the Television BAFTA Awards for her work on ‘I AM RUTH’.

In 2021 she took part in the BSC Mentorship Programme under the guidance of BSC Cinematographer Laurie Rose

She is a member of Illuminatrix, Women Behind The Camera, BAFTA and BSC Clubhouse.

Rachel is an active member of the filmmaking community and the groups to which she bears membership. She regularly participates in, and organises workshops & Masterclasses for Illuminatix and Women Behind The Camera. She is both a mentor and mentee, strongly believing in the importance of sharing knowledge & ideas to forge a stronger & more vibrant community.
